As we enter the new year, we would like to take a moment to wish you all a Happy New Year on behalf of the St. George Business Association.
About Us:
The St. George Business Association meets monthly to develop strategies aimed at supporting local businesses and promoting tourism in our community. Our dedicated board includes Heidi Gorter (President), Linda Howell (Secretary), Ivan White (Treasurer), Sherri Barna, John Monkhouse, and John MacAlpine.
Brandon Webb (Research and Marketing Economic Development Officer) from the County of Brant attends all our meetings to provide updates, which we then share with both St. George residents and our local business community.
We also host social events to foster community connections among St. George business owners.
Our Achievements in 2024:
We proudly contributed to the creation of a mural honoring Adelaide Hunter Hoodless and her important legacy.
The Annual St. George Car Show, held every year on the first Sunday after Father’s Day, was a highlight. This event not only supports our downtown businesses but also provides a fun, family-friendly activity for locals and attracts car enthusiasts to our village.
This year, we were involved in Brant Eats at the Gaukel Memorial Arena, an event celebrating local food and drink from the County of Brant. It was a resounding success, and we’re already planning for a larger venue in 2025!
In partnership with the County of Brant, we worked on the Holiday Lighting display along our main streets and in Snowball Park. The first annual tree lighting ceremony was a huge success, and we’re excited to continue growing this tradition. Additionally, we supported Evan’s Toy Drive, helping to maintain the warmth and friendliness of our community during the holiday season.
Goals for 2025:
We aim to improve communication with our business community through regular monthly newsletters.
Our collaborations with local organizations, including the St. George Lions, the St. George Historical Society, and the County of Brant Chamber of Commerce, will continue as we work together to host community-building events.
We plan to host several events focusing on the future growth of our community and its impact on local businesses. This includes advocating for businesses with the County of Brant, conducting focus groups for downtown business owners, and hosting social events that foster relationship-building among local entrepreneurs.
We will also begin a membership drive this month to ensure that we can continue to serve the St. George business community and support our initiatives.
We are deeply grateful to our board members for their tireless efforts, including managing our website and social media, and organizing the many events that make St. George a great place to live and do business.
If you know anyone interested in becoming a member, please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself or any of our board members here today.
We look forward to another successful year serving the St. George community!
